Cut Lemons and Lemonade

May 30, 2012--Today I’m going to talk about lemons and my paintings.

Hello!  I do hope everything is going well for you today.

I’m a little depressed, my great granddaughter’s right hand was injured in a freak accident, and several bones were broken.  She is a dental hygienist and I can’t imagine how this is going to effect how she makes her living, but on to better things…

To day I’m going to talk about lemons. Just to mention the word lemons brings saliva into my mouth, how about you..? Lemons are used in so many ways, for recipes, clean your kitchens sink, and whiten your teeth, make lemonade and the list goes on…

The following information is by Crystal Ray and it will help you learn how to store and use fresh lemons, and once you find out how easy it is, you'll never again buy a plastic lemon or those bottles of reconstituted lemon juice that have very little nutritional value.

I sell the images of my art prints on line here at:  dessie-h-durham-.artistwebsites.com

Purple Egg Plant

May 24, 2012

Do you like Fried Eggplant? I love them, I hope you enjoy my painting…Here is one of our Eggplants from last summer.

Hello!  I hope you are well today; it is raining today here in Virginia just the right amount to make our gardens grow…

Debra has a five by six foot raised garden where she grows some really nice vegetables and it has a ring of strawberries around the inside edge, over on one end she grows herbs.

Around by my kitchen door I grow cilantro, dill and a tomato plant, it is great fun picking cilantro even when there is snow on the grown, In April the cilantro starts blooming and the seeds will fall to the ground and will soon sprout and start growing new plants again.

On the other side of my kitchen door a huge concord purple grape vine grows and this summer we have delicious concord grapes to eat.

In among the grape vines are some Polk plants have been growing and I love to cut the tops off of the plants and cook them in some fresh spinach. The Polk
plants have beautiful deep purple berries that the birds love to eat. Talk about free food!  Haa! Haa!

In the depression days, food was hard to come by.  There were Polk plants scattered over the fields and people would cut the tops from the plants and take a loaded wagon full of Polk to the canning factory.  I was sixteen when I work there.  But that is a whole different story about those days!

Elvis Presley sang about Polk Salad Annie

Block Stones in Perspective

Hello, I hope this finds you well today.

I sometimes step out side of the box when I paint. So this time when I started to paint I decided that I wanted to try something different than the usual things that I paint like flowers, vegetables, fruit etc.,.  Although I did not use perspective in painting this Block Stones image I will later add a link on how to draw a brick wall in perspective.

This is my painting of Block Stones, I hope you like the painting.

Liquid Lunch Oil Painting

Hello, it is good to see you again. I’m glad to have you visit me and share this beautiful glass of liquid lunch with me.

A while back I was bored and was trying to think of some thing that I wanted to paint.

But instead of painting I decided to take my crystal glasses from the cabinet and clean them, then when I see the light hitting the crystal after it has been cleaned I really think it is beautiful. So this was when I decided that I should fill the glass with a drink and use it for a painting.

I’m glad to have you visit me and share this beautiful glass of liquid lunch with me.

Hello!  I guess everyone has days when nothing goes right; today I‘m having one of those days, painting shadows are something that just tears me up.
